JAMAICA, NY—On a night where she was honored during her final home game, Charlina Gallegos recorded her 1,000th career assist as the York College women’s volleyball team defeated Brooklyn College 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-20) in front of a large home crowd Tuesday evening.

Gallegos’ 1000th career assist came on a kill from fellow senior Irma Ruilova that gave York a 22-21 lead in the first set.  She would finish with 15 assists and now has 1,005 for her career.

Another senior, Shanine Bogan turned in a big effort for York, recording a match-high ten kills and a .526 hitting percentage, while also blocking three shots.  Ruilova was second on the team with six kills and led all players with ten digs.

During the game, both teams wore pink uniforms and a guest speaker provided information on breast cancer in an effort to increase breast cancer prevention awareness.

With the win, York improves to 7-19, 3-6 in the CUNY Athletic Conference, while Brooklyn falls to 4-19, 1-8 in the CUNYAC.

York will now await the pairings to be announced for the upcoming CUNYAC championships.  The quarterfinals begin November 3rd.
