Maya Monroe, Daughter of New York Knick Great Earl Monroe, Named York College Assistant Women's Basketball Coach
York

JAMAICA, NY— Maya Monroe, the daughter of New York Knick great and hall of famer Earl Monroe, has been named the assistant coach for the York College women’s basketball team.

Monroe comes to York after coaching Seward Park High School the last four seasons.  She took over a team with a 3-15 record and went a combined 45-5 in three seasons, leading the team to a divisional and regular season championship.

Monroe is also the co-founder of the Hoop Fundamentals/ Earl Monroe Skills Academy, a community program that specializes in the development of individual fundamental basketball skills for boys and girls from grades 4-12.

Monroe currently serves as the Physical Education Director at the Madison Square Boys and Girls club where she is responsible for the development and implementation of the health and physical education programs.

She graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a BS in International Affairs and was a member of the Yellow Jacket’s women’s basketball team from 2001-2004.

“I think Maya Monroe will be a great addition to the York College coaching staff, said Athletic Director Ronald St. John. “Her Division I experience as an athlete combined with her four years of high school coaching experience will bring a great deal of confidence and new ideas to the Lady Cardinals coaching staff.”

Monroe will join head coach Winnifred Brown and assistant coach Michelle Reed on the York College coaching staff.
