York College Athletics

York College will hold an interest meeting for any students interested in playing women’s volleyball during the Fall 2010 semester.  The meeting will be held Wednesday, July 7 in the York College Gymnasium, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

NEW YORK, NY— The York College athletics program placed third in 2009-10 Commissioner Cup standings, earning its highest finish ever.  The Cardinals recorded 80 points thanks in part to winning five CUNYAC championships this past school year. Baruch College won the title, scoring 143 points, while Hunter College was second with 80 points.  The winner was announced at the Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athlete dinner at Baruch College Wednesday evening.

Senior track and field and cross country star, Alexandra Nkrumah, and senior setter, Charlina Gallegos, from the women’s volleyball team were among the York College athletes who were honored at the dinner for excelling on the field of play and in the classroom.  

NEW YORK, NY— The York College women’s volleyball team saw its season come to an end Tuesday evening with a 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-4) loss to second-seeded CCNY in the quarterfinals of the CUNY Athletic Conference championships. 

JAMAICA, NY—On a night where she was honored during her final home game, Charlina Gallegos recorded her 1,000^th career assist as the York College women’s volleyball team defeated Brooklyn College 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-20) in front of a large home crowd Tuesday evening.
