JAMAICA, NY— York College junior center, Marcel Esonwune has been named an honorable mention for the D3hoops.com Preseason All-American Team.

Esonwune had a breakout year for the Cardinals squad in 2008-09.  He finished the season among the nations elite in several statistical categories.  Esonwune was sixth in the country in rebounds per game (12.0), seventh in blocked shots per game (3.0), and 28th in field goal percentage (58.8).  He led the CUNY Athletic Conference in blocks and rebounds and was third in points per game (18.2).  Esonwune also averaged 1.9 steals per game, which ranked ninth in the CUNYAC.  The Cardinals finished the season with a record of 14-14 and qualified for both the CUNYAC and ECAC Tournament.

D3hoops.com, the number one source for Division III basketball information, selected four teams and a honorable mention team. Esonwune was one of two players from the CUNY Athletic Conference to receive this honor. Richard Jean-Baptiste of Brooklyn College was named to the second-team.
