York Swimming Sweeps Old Westbury; Women Top New Rochelle

JAMAICA
, NY— The York College men’s and women’s swim teams each earned a victory over SUNY Old Westbury, while the women also topped the College of New Rochelle in a tri-meet at York College Monday evening.  The women topped Old Westbury 107-89 and New Rochelle 58-48, while the men defeated Old Westbury 113-86. 

 

Women’s Recap

Sara Pazmino, the reigning CUNYAC rookie of the week, finished first in three events: the 200 IM, 100 IM, and the 100-breaststroke.

 

Sophomore Averie Mohammed and Junior Ayanna Bennett each took home a pair of first place finishes.  Mohammed was victorious in the 50-free and the 100-free, while Bennett won the 50-breaststroke and 100-backstroke. Senior Dawn Davis also won the 200-freestyle.  

 

In the relay events, the team of Bennett, Pazmino, Mohammed and Jennifer Castillo won the 200-medley relay, while Davis, Chrisviany Delarosa, Yajaira Saavedra and Christie Montavlo won the 200-free relay. 

 

Men’s Recap

Sophomore Andrew Phillips won all three of his events, touching the wall first in the 200-IM, 50-free and the 100-fly.  Senior James Kearney and freshman Johnathon Boyce each won two events.  Kearney won the 100-free and the 50-breaststroke, while Boyce triumphed in the 400-free and 100-breaststroke.  Other first place finishers include Oliver Gonzalez in the 50-breaststroke, Wesley Padilla in the 200-free and Sergio Negron in the 100-back. 

 

In the relay events, the team of Negron, Kearney, Phillips and Juan Recinos won the 200-medley relay, while Recinos, Padilla, Boyce and Kyle Gomes won the 200-free relay.

 

With the win, the women improve to 2-2, while the men now stand at 1-1.  York will be idle until December 10, when they host FDU-Florham and Sarah Lawrence College.

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y— The York College men's and women's swimming teams lost to both the United States Merchant Marine Academy and The College at Old Westbury in a double dual meet Thursday evening.  The women lost by scores of 52-35 and 61-29 to USMMA and Old Westbury respectively.   The men lost by scores of 80-8 to USMMA and 61-14 to Old Westbury.

NEW YORK, N.Y— Averie Mohammed and Alexandra Castro each won a pair of events for the second straight night but it would be enough, as the York College women's swimming team fell to John Jay College by a score of 56-33 in a conference dual meet Tuesday night.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y— The York College men's and women's swimming teams were on the losing end of a meet with conference-rival the College of Staten Island Monday.  The women lost 105-69, while the men lost 91-69.  Despite the loss, the women had a handful of strong individual performances.  Senior Averie Mohammed picked up a pair of victories on the evening, winning the 50-yard freestyle (29.53) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:10.79). Alexandra Castro also won two events, taking first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:29.06) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:53.98).
