York Loses to Farmingdale at SUNY New Paltz Tournament

NEW PALTZ, NY— After winning its first two games, the York College women’s basketball team struggled in the the opening round of the SUNY New Paltz Tip-Off Tournament and fell to Farmingdale State College 72-45 on Friday afternoon.

 

Despite the loss, junior Niya Jarvis turned in a strong effort, recording a double-double.  She netted ten points, grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds and added two steals.  Kadisha Wickham led York with 13 points, while also grabbing six rebounds. Farmingdale’s Kimberly Blakney led all scorers with 24 points, to go along with eight rebounds, while Kamay Miller netted 14 points. 

 

The Lady Cardinals only trailed by eight points at halftime, 26-18, but the Rams exploded in the second half and outscored York by a 46-27 margin.   The Lady Cardinals committed 34 turnovers, compared to just 16 for the Rams, which proved to a major factor in the loss.  

 

York falls to 2-1, while the Rams are now 1-0. The Lady Cardinals will play Tufts at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
