York Takes Three CUNYAC Swimming Weekly Awards

Phillips and Mohammed Named Athlete of the Week; Boyce Wins Rookie of the Week

JAMAICA, NY— The CUNY Athletic Conference weekly swimming awards were announced Monday and the York College swim team took home three out of the four honors.  Andrew Phillips and Averie Mohammed were named Men’s and Women’s Athlete of the Week respectively, while Johnathon Boyce was tabbed as the Men’s Rookie of the Week. 

 

In the Cardinals lone meet of the week last Monday, a tri-match against Old Westbury and New Rochelle, Averie Mohammed won both the 50-free and the 100-free.  Mohammed currently has the fourth best time in both the 50 and 100-freestyle.  The Lady Cardinals defeated Old Westbury 107-89 and New Rochelle 58-49.

 

Phillips won all three of his events against Old Westbury, touching the wall first in the 200-IM, 50-free and the 100-butterfly.   Phillips currently has the fifth best 50-freestyle time and sixth best 100-fly time in the CUNYAC.

 

Boyce, won two events for York, the 400-free and the 100-breaststroke as York went on to defeat Old Westbury 113-86. 

 

Both teams will travel to Baruch on Monday at 6:00 p.m.

JAMAICA, NY— The York College men’s and women’s swim teams each defeated Old Westbury but fell to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on “senior night,” Thursday evening.  The men defeated Old Westbury 51-20, while the women won 40-14.  Against USMMA, the Mariners defeated the York men 62-32, while the York women lost 62-31.

STATEN ISLAND, NY— The York College men’s and women’s swim teams each fell to the College of Staten Island in a CUNY Athletic Conference meet on Friday evening.  The men lost by a score of 138-57, while the women lost 137-91.

JAMAICA, NY— The York College men’s and women’s swim team fell to Farleigh Dickinson University at Florham, while the women also lost to Sarah Lawrence College in a tri-meet held at York College Thursday evening.  The women lost 94-28 to FDU-Florham and 85-37 to Sarah Lawrence College.  The men lost by a score of 130-97 to FDU-Florham.
