JAMAICA, NY— For the second consecutive year, York College junior Elysee Vilsaint has been named the CUNY Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Year. Also earning recognition from York was Jaime Hay and Francisco Florez, who were named to the First Team, and Hugo Cicanois and Ousmane Toure, who earned second-team honors.
Vilsaint, a junior, once again had a tremendous season to lead York to its sixth CUNYAC Championship in school history. The forward led the conference with 17 goals and 41 points. Vilsaint also ranks third in the country in points per game (2.47) and third in goals per game (1.00). In addition, he was named MVP of the 2009 CUNYAC Championships after recording three goals and four assists in three contests.
Cicanois, a sophomore midfielder, makes his second straight appearance on the all-stars. Last season, he was the CUNYAC Rookie of the Year. This season, Cicanois was the team’s fourth leading scorer, netting four goals.
Florez, the 2007 Rookie of the Year, returns to the All-Stars after sitting out last season. The sophomore midfielder finished second on the team and fifth in the conference in goals scored with seven.
Ousmane Toure, a sophomore midfielder, makes his first appearance on the CUNYAC all-stars. Toure finished third on the team in goals with five.
Hay, a freshman, earned First-Team status thanks to his phenomenal play on defense. Hay anchored a defense that ranked second in the conference in goals against average (1.35). The Cardinals also recorded eight shutouts during the season.
York advanced to the NCAA tournament where they were eliminated by Stevens Institute of Technology by a score of 2-0 in the opening round.
