York Men Finish Third; Women Sixth at Queensborough Invitational
York Cross Country

BRONX, NY— Kenny Jacquet finished third to lead the York College men’s cross country team to a third place finish at the Queensborough Invitational, while Taneisha Renaud finished sixth to lead the women’s team to a sixth place finish at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, Sunday morning. Jacquet navigated the 8k course in a time of 31:37, while Renaud ran the 6k course in 29:22.

 

The men’s team finished with 120 team points, while Brooklyn College won the race with 69 points, followed by John Jay with 75 points.  Pratt Institute won the women’s race with 58 points.

 

Freshman Ronel Phillip had a strong meet for the men, finishing 15th overall with a time of 33:57 and junior Cavohdya Ben-Levi came in right behind in 16th place (34:38).   Alexandra Nkrumah earned a tenth place finish on the women’s side finishing the race in 30:03.00. 

 

The Cardinals will host the York Invitational on Sunday at Van Cortlandt park beginning with the women’s race at 10:00 am.

JAMAICA, NY— York College junior cross country runner Tarik Weekes has been named a 2011 CUNY Athletic Conference Cross Country All-Star, thanks to his strong performance this season.
 
The veteran cross-country runner got the all-star nod after placing ninth in the CUNYAC Cross Country Championships held at Van Cortlandt Park.  Weekes ran the 8k course in a time 29:49.

BRONX, NY—The York College men's cross country team closed out the 2011 season with a fifth place finish at the CUNY Athletic Conference/ U.S. Army Cross Country Championships Tuesday afternoon.  Meanwhile, the women's team placed seventh overall.

The 2011 CUNY Athletic Conference/ U.S. Army Cross Country Championships, which were originally scheduled for October 30 will now take place on Tuesday, November 8 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.  The women's 6k race will go off at 2:00 p.m. and the men's 8k race will follow at 3:00 p.m.

BRONX, NY—The York College cross country teams hosted the York Invitational on Sunday morning and a number of Cardinal runners ran personal best times at the home meet.  The York men placed ninth with 192 points, while the women were also ninth with 262 points.

STATEN ISLAND, NY— The York College men's cross country team had its best finish of the season Sunday at the College of Staten Island Invitational, placing third overall.  Meanwhile, the women's cross country team also had its best finish of the season, placing eighth overall.

Cavohdyah Ben-Levi, a four-year member of the cross country and track and field teams, joined The Cardinals Spotlight on Monday afternoon. 
 
Ben-Levi discussed his athletic career at York College, the new coaching staff, and many other topics with co-hosts Brandon Nix and John Scarinci.  Later, Nix and Scarinci looked back on week 3 of the NFL season and looked ahead to the MLB playoffs.
