Indoor Track and Field Makes Strong Showing at Wesleyan Invitational

— The York College men’s and women’s indoor track and field team made a strong showing at the Wesleyan Invitational Saturday.  The teams combined for seven first place finishes.

 

Women’s Recap

Sophomore standout Kadisha Wickham took a break from basketball season and won two events, the 200-meter dash (25.94) and the 400-meter dash (1:02.05), while also placing second in the high jump (1.47m). 

 

Senior Alexandra Nkrumah earned a fist place finish in the 800-meter dash (2:23.66) and senior Taneisha Renaud was victorious in the in the mile run (5:56.89). Junior Chianne Ashman also added a first place run in the 55 meter dash (7.38). 

 

In the relay events, the team of Nkrumah, Wendella Rankin, Wickham and Allana Wilson won the 4x400 relay in a time of 4:09.68. 

 

Men’s Recap

Ronel Phillip was the sole member of the men’s team to finish first in an individual event, winning the 800-meter run in a time of 2:03.53.  The 4x400 relay team of Phillip Tarik Weekes, Lance Fleming and Paul Adetola won the race in a time of 3:35.93.

NEW YORK, N.Y.—Tarik Weekes finished fifth in the men's 800-meter run and Olabimpe Ologundudu was second in the men's high jump to lead the York College track & field team at the Metro Coaches Invitational held at the Armory in New York City Friday.

NEW HAVEN, C.T.—The York College men's relay team of Christopher Peguero, Anson Webb, Jesus Medina and Tarik Weekes placed third overall in the 1,600-sprint medley relay at the Collegiate Track Conference Indoor Relay Carnival held at Yale University Sunday afternoon.

The SMR team finished with a time of 3:43.89, just behind Division II St. Thomas Aquinas College and Rutgers-Newark University.  It was the top finish for any York College relay on the day

JAMAICA, NY— York College track and field and cross country coach Thomas Pope, who announced his retirement recently after leading York to 21 CUNY Athletic Conference Championships in an illustrious 14-year coaching career, was honored at York's 36th Annual Athletic Awards Ceremony on Tuesday evening.

JAMAICA, NY—Legendary York College track and field and cross country coach Thomas Pope will retire following the end of the 2011 school year after 14 years leading the Cardinals.  

Coach Pope will go down as one of the most successful coaches to ever work at York.  His resume includes 21 CUNY Athletic Conference Championships combined between men's and women's cross country and track and field.  York College has captured 31 total CUNYAC titles, so more than two-thirds of all York's conference titles came under Coach Pope's guidance.
