Cardinals Win Tenth Straight; Crush Berkeley 90-58

, NY— The York College men’s basketball team picked up its tenth consecutive victory in dominating fashion, defeating Berkeley College 90-58 in a non-conference game on Friday evening. 

 

Four players reached double-figures in points, led by junior Marcel Esonwune who finished with 26 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots.  It was Esonwune’s 16th double-double of the season and the seventh time he has eclipsed 20 points. Senior Nicholas Hamilton-Lopez added 20 points, five boards and five assists and freshman Shamir Wilkinson netted 12 points and pulled down eight boards.  Senior Elijah Evelyn added 11 points, while senior Ryan Exum scored six points and dished out a season-high 11 assists.  Ike Iwu pace York with seven points off the bench.

 

York was never really threatened in the contest.  The Bulldogs briefly took a two point lead early in the first half.  However, a 10- run midway through the half put York on top for good.

 

The Bulldogs were led by Andre Jarvis who had 12 points and eight boards. Donovan Black added ten points and seven rebounds.

 

With the win, York improves to 14-5, while Berkeley falls to 3-13.  The Cardinals will look to make it 11 straight victories when they visit CCNY on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

JAMAICA, NY— The York College men's basketball team won a wild contest with conference-rival Lehman College on Friday evening by a score 74-70.  
 
With the score tied at 70-70 with Lehman holding for a final shot, the Lightning's Phil Ductan had his shot blocked by York's Shamir Wilkinson.  Wilkinson was fouled after coming down with the rebound with just 0.5 seconds left in the game.  Lehman did not agree with the call and a pair of arguments by a Lehman player and its head coach resulted in a pair of technical fouls that gave Cardinals four free throws in addition to the original two.  York hit four of the six shots to seal the game.
