Late Rally Buries York; Lady Cardinals Fall to St. Joseph's (BK)

Box Score

BROOKLYN, NY— The York College women’s basketball saw three of its players net 19 points but it was not enough as the Lady Cardinals fell to St. Joseph’s College (BK) 81-73 on Saturday evening.  The Bears went on a late run to come from behind and win the game.

Kadisha Wickham, Elizabeth Padilla and Maimouna Dabo each added 19 points in the loss.  Wickham also added nine rebounds, while Dabo grabbed seven boards.  In addition, Niya Jarvis recorded a double-double for York, scoring 12 points and grabbing ten rebounds.

The Lady Cardinals put themselves in a big hole early on.  The Bears opened the game with a 16-3 run.  A number of York turnovers led the inauspicious start.  The Lady Cardinals gradually cut into the lead and after a 7-0 run, trailed by just three points (26-23) with 7:25 to play in the half.  The Bears would take a two-point lead (41-39) into the locker room.

In the second half, York rallied to take the lead after a jumper by Niya Jarvis made the score 57-56 with 12:13 to play.  The Lady Cardinals would score seven more unanswered points and took an eight-point advantage (66-58) after a Padilla jumper with 8:11 to play.

The game seemed to be turning in York’s favor. However, St. Joseph’s went on a furious run from that point on.  The Bears outscored York 23-7 over the final eight minutes of play to win the game.  Ashley McQuillan was the key for St. Joseph’s, scoring a game-high 26 points, with 18 coming in the second half.

With the loss York falls to 8-10, while St. Joseph’s improves to 8-10.  The Lady Cardinals will visit CCNY on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
