Nkrumah and Phillip Named CUNYAC Track Athletes of the Week
York Track and Field

JAMAICA, NY— York college junior Ronel Phillip and senior Alexandra Nkrumah have been named the CUNY Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Track Athletes of the Week respectively for the period ending January 24, 2010. It’s it second straight week the Cardinals have swept the award.  Phillip and Kadisha Wickham won last week.

Phillip added two top ten finishes in the Wesleyan Invitational #3 last weekend. The Samuel J. Tilden High School grad placed fourth in the 400 Meter Dash and added an eighth place nod in the 200 Meter Dash (23.37). His 51.80 time in the 400 bested last week’s split time in the 4x400 Meter Relay by 0.32 seconds.

Nkrumah, the reigning Indoor & Outdoor Athlete of the Year is striding into form in 2010. The senior from Brooklyn, NY (Midwood HS) won the 800 Meter race at the Wesleyan Invitational #3 in Middletown, CT by nearly two full seconds (2:23.81). She also took home the bronze in the 55 Meter Hurdles in 9.10, following a seventh place showing in the preliminary heats in the same event. These two early season results are well ahead of her Senior College CUNY title pace from a season ago in both events.
