Lady Cardinals Top Lehman College in Overtime

Box Score

JAMAICA
, NY— Maimouna Dabo scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Elizabeth Padilla added 19 points to lead the York College women’s basketball team to a 80-70 overtime victory over Lehman College on Monday afternoon.

With the win, York (13-11, 8-5 CUNYAC) will be the fifth seed in the upcoming CUNYAC playoffs.  The Lady Cardinals will travel to Staten Island on Sunday at a time to be announced.

Leading by seven points (60-53), with two minutes remaining, York saw its lead evaporate when the Lightning went on a 7-0 run to even the score.   After the Lightning tied up the game with 1:00 remaining, Dabo went coast-to-coast and scored on a lay-up to put York back up by two points (62-60).  However, Lehman’s Barbara Febus went up the court herself and scored on a lay-up to tie the game.  York had a couple chances to score on its final possession but could not find the basket and the game went into overtime.

In overtime, it was all York as they outscored the Lightning 18-8 in the extra period.  A three-point play by Padilla put York up by eight points (74-66) with 1:21, which iced the game for the Lady Cardinals.

Also contributing for York in the win was Niya Jarvis who recorded a double-double scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds and Kadisha Wickham who also had a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down 14 boards.

Lehman (10-15, 8-5 CUNYAC) was led by Febus who finished with 20 points.  Melissa St. Luis added seven points and 13 rebounds.
