Bennett and Mohammed Win Bronze at Day One of CUNYAC Championships

BRONX, NY— Aaron Bennett and Averie Mohammed each picked up a third place finish in their respective 50-meter freestyle event at day one of the CUNY Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday afternoon. 

 

Bennett finished the race in 23.55 for the men, while Mohammed completed the race in 27.69 for the women. The two were the only York swimmers to medal on day one. 

 

After the first day, theBaruch men (300 points) and women (293 points) each lead.  The York women are in fourth place (139 points), while the men are also in fourth (179 points).

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y— The York College men's and women's swimming teams lost to both the United States Merchant Marine Academy and The College at Old Westbury in a double dual meet Thursday evening.  The women lost by scores of 52-35 and 61-29 to USMMA and Old Westbury respectively.   The men lost by scores of 80-8 to USMMA and 61-14 to Old Westbury.

NEW YORK, N.Y— Averie Mohammed and Alexandra Castro each won a pair of events for the second straight night but it would be enough, as the York College women's swimming team fell to John Jay College by a score of 56-33 in a conference dual meet Tuesday night.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y— The York College men's and women's swimming teams were on the losing end of a meet with conference-rival the College of Staten Island Monday.  The women lost 105-69, while the men lost 91-69.  Despite the loss, the women had a handful of strong individual performances.  Senior Averie Mohammed picked up a pair of victories on the evening, winning the 50-yard freestyle (29.53) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:10.79). Alexandra Castro also won two events, taking first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:29.06) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:53.98).
