Hamilton-Lopez Nets 33 in ECAC Quarterfinal Win over St. Joseph's
Nicholas Hamilton-Lopez

Box Score

JAMAICA, NY— Senior guard Nicholas Hamilton-Lopez scored a game-high 33 points to lead the York College men’s basketball team to an 87-58 win over St. Joseph’s College (LI) in the quarterfinals of 2010 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Division Championships.

The game was never in doubt due in large part due to the shooting of Hamilton-Lopez in the early going.  Hamilton-Lopez netted 23 of his 33 points and made five of his seven three-pointers in the first half.  With just nine minutes into the game, he already had 21 points and York had a comfortable 30-19 lead.  The Cardinals continued to pile it on and took a 28 point lead into halftime.  St. Joseph’s could only get as close as 24 points the rest of the way.

Also contributing for York (22-7) was junior center Marcel Esonwune who finished with 13 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks.  Senior forward Elijah Evelyn paced the Cardinals with 19 points.  With the win, York has matched it school record of 22 wins, which was set during the 2007-08 school year.

For St. Joseph’s (17-10), Mike Crisci scored a team-high 16 points, while Shahab Syed finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.

York will now face NYU in the semi-finals on Saturday at a 2:30 p.m.  The game will played on the campus of SUNY Old Westbury. JAMAICA, NY— The York College men's basketball team won a wild contest with conference-rival Lehman College on Friday evening by a score 74-70.

With the score tied at 70-70 with Lehman holding for a final shot, the Lightning's Phil Ductan had his shot blocked by York's Shamir Wilkinson.  Wilkinson was fouled after coming down with the rebound with just 0.5 seconds left in the game.  Lehman did not agree with the call and a pair of arguments by a Lehman player and its head coach resulted in a pair of technical fouls that gave Cardinals four free throws in addition to the original two.  York hit four of the six shots to seal the game.
