JAMAICA, NY— The York College men’s volleyball team dropped a tough match to Lehman College, falling four sets by a score of 3-1 (30-23, 22-30, 30-28, 30-23) in a CUNY Athletic Conference match Tuesday evening.
The turning point in the match came in the third set with each team splitting the first two sets. With the scored tied at 28-28, consecutive kills by Lehman’s RJ LeBlanc and Nate Martin gave the Lightning the set and a 2-1 advantage. Lehman would go on to take the fourth set and the match.
Despite the loss for York (10-12, 6-6 CUNYAC), Alex Niles had one of his best matches of the season, recording a team-high 18 kills, (.387) 19 digs and three blocks. Setter Aruni Piantini finished with 29 assists and 15 digs, while Brian Francisco finished with six kills and 11 digs. Bryan Williams also had a solid game, recording nine kills and eight digs.
Lehman (9-7, 5-3 CUNYAC) was led by Martin who finished with 18 kills and a match-high 20 digs. LeBlanc slammed 14 kills and Aris Ducasse added 11 kills and 13 digs.
York will be idle until next Tuesday, March 9 when they visit Brooklyn College at 7:00 p.m.
