Belizario Throws Two No-Hitters; Slams Two Home Runs in Sweep of City Tech

QUEENS
, NY – Freshman pitcher Thessaly Belizario threw a no-hitter in both ends of a doubleheader, slammed two home runs, including a grand slam, and collected eight RBI’s to lead the York College softball team to wins of 23-0 and 13-1 over conference-rival City Tech on Thursday afternoon.

 

It is the third no-hitter for Belizario this week. She tossed a no-hitter against the College of New Rochelle in a 22-0 win last Saturday.   Belizario struck out seven batters and walked two in game one and fanned five batters and allowed an unearned run in the nightcap.

 

In the second inning of game one, Belizario highlighted a 15-run inning by hitting a grand slam and then capped off the inning with a two-run blast.  The Lady Cardinals batted around twice in the inning and collected twelve hits.

 

Shanay Patalano also had a big game for York, going 3-5 with five RBI’s and three runs scored.  Laura Ulloa went 4-4 in game one with three runs scored and an RBI and Geneva Faulk was 2-3 with three runs scored.  

 

In game two, the Lady Cardinals took advantage of ten walks and seven errors and plated 13 runs. York put up four runs in the first and seven in the second.  Belizario collected two more RBI’s in the nightcap. 

 

With the wins, York improves to 8-20, 4-9 in the CUNY Athletic Conference.  City Tech falls to 1-22, 0-12 in the CUNYAC.  York will close out the regular season with a doubleheader against Brooklyn College. The game time is yet to be determined.

Today's scheduled softball game against Baruch College has once again been postponed.  The makeup date will be this Saturday, April 30 at 3:00 p.m.  However, the game will be played at the College of Staten Island.

The game against Brooklyn College which was originally slated for this Saturday has been postponed.  There is no word yet on if that game will be made up.
