York Loses Two Heartbreaking Games to Purchase College

PURCHASE, NY— The York College softball team lost two heartbreaking games to Purchase College in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Cardinals saw a four-run lead evaporate in game one and lost 7-4. They then fell in game two on a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh.
Game One Recap
After going scoreless for the first two frames, York put up four runs in the top of the third. Laura Ulloa started the scoring with a one-out single, which brought home Rentia Raghubir. After Joviette Frederick reached on an error, Thessaly Belizario doubled home a run. Frederick also scored on the play after a wild throw on the relay to make it 3-0. Another error brought home Bellizario to make it 4-0.
However, in the bottom of the fourth, Purchase struck for seven runs to take a 7-4 lead. York was done in by four errors in the inning, which led to six of the seven runs being unearned.
Lindsay Froman held York down the rest of the way to earn the victory. She struck out seven batters and scattered nine hits in seven innings. Bellizario went six innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run, while striking out seven batters in the loss. The only hits she allowed were in the error-plagued fourth inning.
Ulloa went 2-4 with a run and an RBI and Bellizario was 2-3 with a run and an RBI.
Game Two Recap
Down 6-4 going into the top of the seventh, the Lady Cardinals rallied to tie the game at 6-6. Shanay Patalano started the inning off with a double. Frederick singled home Patalano and then came all the way around to score after a throwing error by the shortstop.
In the bottom of the seventh, Purchase's Olivia Hintz reached on a one-out error and then advanced to second on a passed ball. After a single moved her to third base, Hintz was able to score the winning run on a sacrifice fly to left field.
Despite the loss, Shanay Patalano went 3-4 with two runs scored, while Frederick went 2-2 with a walk and three runs scored. Geneva Faulk went 1-3 with 2 RBI's.
York falls to 0-12, while Purchase improves to 7-10. The Lady Cardinals will visit John Jay College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The game will be played at the College of Staten Island.
