NEW YORK, NY— The York College softball team saw its season come to a close Wednesday afternoon, as they fell to Hunter College, 11-0, in the quarterfinals of the 2010 CUNY Athletic Conference Championships.

The Hawks jumped out to a 6-0 advantage after one inning of play thanks in part to a two-RBI single by Megan McKenna and a three-run homer off the bat of Josephine Estevez.  The Hawks continued to score in each frame, adding two in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth.

York had a few scoring opportunities but could never get the big hit.  Shanay Patalano opened the game with a double but was stranded at second in the first inning.   York also put runners on first and second with one out in the second inning after an Aileen Abad single and a Laura Ulloa walk.  However, Hunter pitcher Stephanie Damroth induced a ground out and a strike out to get out of the inning.

McKenna finished the day 4-4 with two runs and five RBI’s to lead Hunter, while Damroth went three innings, allowing just two hits and striking out six to earn the victory in the five-inning game.  Abad went 2-2 to lead the Lady Cardinals.

York finishes the 2010 season with a record of 8-21. Hunter will move on the semi-finals and will take on the College of Staten Island on Friday.
