PATCHOGUE, NY— The York College men’s soccer team struggled in the first half Wednesday evening, allowing four goals to St. Joseph’s College (LI). The Cardinals played even with the Golden Eagles in the second half but the deficit was too great as York lost by a final score of 4-0.
Just five minutes into the game, the Golden Eagles opened the scoring when Jason Bohman found Julian Barreiros who put the ball in net for the game’s first goal. The score would remain the same until the 24th minute when St. Joseph’s William Kuhlwilm netted a goal to make the score 2-0. Late in the second half, St. Joseph’s John Dettori would add two goals in a three minute span to round out the scoring for the Golden Eagles.
Despite allowing four goals, York goalie Samer Abdelfattah was able to turn away seven shots in the game. With the loss, York now falls to 0-3 on the season. They hope to get back on track this weekend when they take part in the Centenary College Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. The Cardinals will battle Penn State University-Brandywine on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and PSU-Altoona on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
