Six Cardinals Named to CUNYAC Track and Field All-Star Team
JAMAICA, NY— Six members of the York College outdoor track and field team have been named 2011 CUNY Athletic Conference All-Stars. Tarik Weekes of the men's team and Wendella Rankin, Denecia Gardener, Antoinette Smile, Alexis Schloss and Kemilla John of the women's team all received the honor Friday.
Weekes had a strong performance at the 2011 CUNYAC Championships, winning the 800-meter run (1:58.92) and coming in second place in the 1,500 meter run (4:17.62). Kemilla John was the top York performer on the women's side, placing second in the 100-meter dash (12.55), second in the 200-meter dash (26.12) and third in the high jump (1.40 meters).
Gardener, Rankin and John were all members of the 4x100 and 4x400 teams that swept the relay events. The Lady Cardinals won the 4x100 in a time of 50.10 and the 4x400 in a time of 4:11.42. Smile was the fourth member of the 4x100 team, while Schloss was the other member of the 4x400 team.
Paul Dedewo of CCNY and Leah Dawkins of CCNY were named men's and women's Athlete of the Year respectively. Radoslav Boyukliev of CCNY and Tobi Alli of Lehman College were named men's and women's Rookie of the Year and Hugh Reid of CCNY was honored as both the men's and women's CUNYAC Coach of the Year.
