York College Serves as Evacuation Center During Hurricane Irene

JAMAICA, NY— With a new athletic season just a few days away, the York College Health & Physical Education Complex would typically be filled with teams getting ready for the upcoming season.  However, with Hurricane Irene hitting the New York area this past weekend, the gym served as an evacuation center for New York City residents who were forced to leave their homes. 
 
York College Athletic Director Ronald St. John, Assistant Athletic Director Jessica Cherry and women's soccer players Kyla Pinnock and Christele Felix lent a helping hand to the Red Cross and the hundreds of displaced New Yorkers who took shelter at the college.
