Anna Ko Wins CUNYAC Women’s Tennis Sportsmanship Award

JAMAICA, N.Y.— The CUNY Athletic Conference has announced its yearly Women's Tennis Awards and York College women's tennis standout, Anna Ko has been named the winner of the 2012 CUNY Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Award.

Ko was an impressive 10-1 this season, setting a school record for most victories in a single season.  She was a surprising snub from the All-Star team but earned the Sportsmanship Award as consolation.

“Sportsmanship is always exemplified by the actions of Anna Ko. She is always fair kind and considerate of her challenging opponent,” said York Head Coach Greg Jackson. “Anna has the ability to make an opponent feel good about herself regardless of the outcome. She has only lost one match. She steps her game regardless to what position she is requested to engage. She is very hardworking, thoughtful individual. No matter what she never falters, keeps going, hitting the elusive last ball whether she wins or loses, she always has a positive attitude.”

Brooklyn's Yulia Orkis, who was undefeated at first singles all season, was named CUNYAC Player of the Year.  The College of Staten Island's, Madiha Mulla was named Rookie of the Year and Brooklyn's Ahmad Odetalla earned Coach of the Year Honors.
