STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— Several York College student-athletes took part in a special event recently as they took time off on a Sunday to participate in the 4 th Annual Great Kills Beach Polar Plunge in Staten Island. The premise of the event is simple. Participants take a cold dip in the ocean in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the dedicated athletes of Special Olympics New York

The women's tennis quarterfinal match against Baruch College and the men's soccer non-conference tilt against Berkeley College have been postponed due to the inclement weather.
Women's tennis will now play on Thursday at 3:30 p.m., while the men's soccer team will make the game up on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

The Student Athletic Advisory Committee Movie Night will return this Thursday, October 13 to York College. The SAAC committee will be showing Coach Carter in the lobby of the Health & Physical Education building at 7:00 p.m.

JAMAICA, NY— With a new athletic season just a few days away, the York College Health & Physical Education Complex would typically be filled with teams getting ready for the upcoming season. However, with Hurricane Irene hitting the New York area this past weekend, the gym served as an evacuation center for New York City residents who were forced to leave their homes.
York College Athletic Director Ronald St. John, Assistant Athletic Director Jessica Cherry and women's soccer players Kyla Pinnock and Christele Felix lent a helping hand to the Red Cross and the hundreds of displaced New Yorkers who took shelter at the college.

York College cheerleading will be holding tryouts on September 1st from 12-2 p.m. and 6 p.m-830 p.m. They will also be holding tryouts on September 3rd at 9 a.m. All tryouts will be held in the gymnasium
