York Closes Regular Season with 7-0 Rout of Yeshiva

JAMAICA, NY   Elysee Vilsaint scored three goals and Roy Rambarran added two goals and an assist to lead the York College men’s soccer team to a 7-0 rout of Yeshiva University in its 2009 regular season finale Sunday. 

 

The Cardinals dominated the game from start to finish.  Rambarran opened the scoring with a unassisted goal in the 11th minute.  Five minutes later, Rambarran would set up Hugo Cicanois for York’s second goal of the game.  Later in the half, with just eight seconds remaining before halftime, Vilsaint scored his first of his three goals. 

 

York would add four more in the second half: two from Vilsaint, one from Rambarran and another from Ousmane Toure. 

 

The seven goals for York matches a season high.  The Cardinals also netted seven goals in a 7-1 win over Purchase College on October 16. 

 

In addition, it was the fourth multi-goal game for Vilsaint this year.  He now has 14 goals on the season which leads the CUNY Athletic Conference. 

 

York closes the regular season with a record of 9-7.  Yeshiva falls to 3-8.  The Cardinals will open the playoffs on Wednesday at home. The pairings and times have yet to be announced.

The York College athletics program held its 35th annual awards dinner Monday evening and handed out a number of awards to some deserving student-athletes.  Marcel Esonwune of the men’s basketball team and Kadisha Wickham of the women’s basketball team and track and field team were named the 2010 York College Athletes of the Year.

JAMAICA, NY— York College soccer standout Elysee Vilsaint has another award to place on his mantle. The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2009 Division III All-Metro Region Men’s Soccer Team and Vilsaint has been named the Co-Offensive Player of the Year. York freshman defender Jaime Hay was also named to the first team.

JAMAICA, NY— For the second consecutive year, York College junior Elysee Vilsaint has been named the CUNY Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Year.  Also earning recognition from York was Jaime Hay and Francisco Florez, who were named to the First Team, and Hugo Cicanois and Ousmane Toure, who earned second-team honors.

STATEN ISLAND, NY– The York College men’s soccer team defeated Hunter College, 1-0, to win the 2009 CUNY Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship on Saturday afternoon.  The Cardinals have now won their sixth CUNYAC Championship, the most of any CUNYAC school, and will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
