Four Players Record Double Figures in Digs in Loss to Yeshiva

JAMAICA, NY— Four players finished in double-figures in digs but it would but not be enough as the York College women’s volleyball team fell to Yeshiva University 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-22) in a non-conference match on Monday evening.

 

Emely Vasquez recorded 16 digs, Irma Ruilova added 14 digs and a match-high eight kills, Cinthia Guerrero had 11 digs and Charlina Gallegos had a double-double, recording ten digs and 11 assists.  Overall, the Lady Cardinals recorded 66 digs, which was match-high for a three-set match this season.

 

However, the Lady Cardinals still lost because they committed a high number of hitting and service errors.  That proved to be the difference in the contest.

 

With the loss, York falls to 6-19 while Yeshiva improves to 3-12.

 

York will close out the regular season on Tuesday when they host Brooklyn College at 7:00 p.m. It will be both pink day and senior day at York College.  The Cardinals will honor the three senior members of the team and they will wear pink uniforms to help raise breast cancer awareness.

NEW YORK, NY—The 2011 women's volleyball season came to end for York College Tuesday evening, as the Cardinals fell to the Baruch College in the quarterfinals of the CUNY Athletic Conference/ Con Edison Women's Volleyball Championships.  York fell to the Bearcats by a score of 3-0 (25-9, 25-6, 25-11).

The York College women's volleyball team, who earned the seventh seed in the CUNY Athletic Conference championships, will visit Baruch College, the second overall seed, on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Baruch's ARC Arena. 
 
York fell 3-0 to Baruch in their only match-up this season.   Should they pull off the upset, they will advance to the semifinal on Thursday at City College.

STATEN ISLAND, NY— York College freshman Stayce Kay Muirhead slammed a match-high 16 kills, with a .316 hitting percentage, but it would not be enough for a victory Tuesday evening, as the Cardinals fell to the College of Staten Island 3-1 (25-16, 20-25, 25-18, 25-23) in the final CUNY Athletic Conference contest of the 2011 season.
