Esonwune Earns Player of the Week Honors

JAMAICA, NY— York College junior center, Marcel Esonwune has earned the CUNY Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for the period ending November 22, 2009. 

 

Esonwune put up a monster week despite his team going 1-2 during the span.  On Wednesday, in York’s season opening loss to Old Westbury, Esonwune netted 22 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked three shots. Then on Friday, in an 83-57 win over Eastern, he recorded 15 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks.  He closed out the week with his best performance in an 84-77 overtime loss to Montclair State University.  Esonwune grabbed a career-high 26 rebounds, while also scoring 19 points and blocking three more shots.  

 

On the season, Esonwune is averaging 18.7 points, 18.3 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game. 

 

York (1-2) will host Ramapo College on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.

York Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Ronald St. John was honored by the Laurelton Lions Club with its Community Service Award. 

 

St. John was honored with the Community Service Award on May 23 at the Laurelton Lions Club 30th Charter Anniversary Celebration on May 23.  He also received a citation from the New York City Council recognizing his over 30 years of service to the York College community.
