Jacquet and Agu Lead York at CUNYAC Championships

RANDALLS ISLAND, NY— Kenny Jacquet and Chinedu Agu each scored in two events to lead the York College men’s outdoor track and field team at day one of the CUNYAC Championships Sunday.  York currently stands in fifth place heading in to Tuesday night’s finale. 

 

Jacquet, a distance runner, placed second in the 10,000 meters with a time of 34:37.01 and was fifth in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:33.62.  Meanwhile in the sprint events, Agu earned a second place finish in the 400-meter dash (50.10) and a seventh place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.75).

 

Also scoring for York was Elijah Evelyn, who placed seventh in the shot put with a distance of 9.94 meters.  Evelyn also finished seventh in the discuss with a throw of 25.75 meters  In addition, Shawn Young finished fourth in the javelin throw with a distance of 39.01 meters.  

 

In the team standings, Lehman College leads with 140 points, followed by Hunter College (109), Medgar Evers College (65), CCNY (45) and York (43). 

 

The final day of competition will take place Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. at Icahn Stadium.

The York College athletics program held its 35th annual awards dinner Monday evening and handed out a number of awards to some deserving student-athletes.  Marcel Esonwune of the men’s basketball team and Kadisha Wickham of the women’s basketball team and track and field team were named the 2010 York College Athletes of the Year.

JAMAICA, NY— York College sophomore Kadisha Wickham has been named the 2010 CUNY Athletic Conference Track and Field Athlete of the Year and York Head Coach Thomas Pope has won both the men’s and women’s CUNYAC Coach of the Year Honors.  Also earning accolades was senior Alexandra Nkrumah, who won the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award, while also earning All-Star status.  Eight other York College athletes earned All-Star honors as well.

NEW YORK, NY – The York College men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams swept the 2010 CUNYAC Championships held at Icahn Stadium Sunday afternoon.  The women’s team dominated the competition en route to their fourth consecutive title and fifth overall, while the men took home their seventh outdoor title and the first since 2006.

RANDALL’S ISLAND, NY— The York College women’s track and field team finished first and the men’s teams took second place at the New York Relays held at Icahn Stadium Saturday afternoon.  Kadisha Wickham ran an NCAA provisional time in the 200-meter dash running a time of 24.93 in the prelims before winning the finals in a time of 25.22.

JAMAICA, NY— York College continues to dominate the CUNYAC Player of the Week awards, sweeping the honors for the third straight week.  Sophomore Kadisha Wickham was named Female Athlete of the Week, while Chinedu Agu was named Male Athlete of the Week.

POMONA, NJYork College senior Alexandra Nkrumah led York at the Osprey Open Saturday, winning the 100-meter hurdles (16.03) and the triple jump (10.76m), while also placing second in the 400-meter dash (59.40).
