Kearney Named CUNYAC Men's Swimmer of the Week

JAMAICA, NY— York College senior James Kearney has been named the CUNY Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week for the period ending January 10, 2010.

 

Kearney won a pair of events in the Cardinals only meet of the week, a 138-57 loss to the College of Staten Island, on Friday.  Kearney took first place in the 50-freestyle and then came back later to win the 100-breaststroke. 

 

York will visit John Jay College tonight at 6:00 p.m., before returning home next Tuesday against Lehman College at 7:00 p.m.

Seniors Honored as Swimming Falls to Lehman in Regular-Season Finale
JAMAICA, N.Y— York College seniors Averie Mohammed and Kyle Gomes were honored in the Cardinals regular-season finale but the Cardinals squad came up short against Lehman College, losing by scores of 96-73 for the women and 98-51 for the men.

Men’s and Women’s Swimming Fall to USMMA, Old Westbury in Double Dual Meet
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y— The York College men's and women's swimming teams lost to both the United States Merchant Marine Academy and The College at Old Westbury in a double dual meet Thursday evening.  The women lost by scores of 52-35 and 61-29 to USMMA and Old Westbury respectively.   The men lost by scores of 80-8 to USMMA and 61-14 to Old Westbury.

Due to some technical issues with the York College swimming pool, today's swim meet vs. Lehman College is postponed.  The meet will be made up on Monday at 6 p.m.

Men's Swimming Falls to CSI
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y— The York College men's and women's swimming teams were on the losing end of a meet with conference-rival the College of Staten Island Monday.  The women lost 105-69, while the men lost 91-69.  Despite the loss, the women had a handful of strong individual performances.  Senior Averie Mohammed picked up a pair of victories on the evening, winning the 50-yard freestyle (29.53) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:10.79).

Men’s and Women’s Swimming Lose to Brooklyn
BROOKLYN, N.Y— The York College men's and women's swimming teams both lost to Brooklyn College in a CUNY Athletic Conference dual meet Friday evening.  The women lost by a score of 83-62, while the men fell 101-67.
