Men's Volleyball Defeats Both Cooper Union and Albertus Magnus

JAMAICA
, NY— The York College men’s volleyball team picked up a pair of victories and extended its win streak to four games, defeating both Cooper Union and Albertus Magnus College Wednesday evening.  York defeated Cooper Union 3-1 (30-18, 30-18, 29-31, 30-25) and dominated Albertus Magnus 3-0 (30-11, 30-2, 30-12).

After winning the first two sets easily, York looked on its way earning a sweep of Cooper Union. York had three match points (29-26) and allowed Cooper Union to even up the score.  They then added two more points and stole the set 31-29.  The fourth set was tight throughout as each team traded points.  However, with the score 26-25 in favor of York, the Cardinals closed out the match with four straight points. 

 

Brian Francisco led all players with 14 kills, while also picking up five blocks and seven digs.  Alex Niles added ten kills and eight blocks, while Arturo Cabrera Jr. finished with nine kills and six digs.  Aruni Piantini added 39 assists. 

 

Albertus Magnus Recap

York dominated the match from the onset.  In the second set, with York up 8-1 and Piantini serving, the Cardinals unleashed 19 consecutive points and went on to win the set by a score of 30-2.  The Cardinals then closed out the match in the third set with a 30-12 triumph. 

 

Francisco once again led York with eight kills, while also blocking two shots.  Bronley Taveras finished with six kills and three blocks and Bryan Williams added six kills. 

 

York (4-1) will visit Philadelphia Biblical on Saturday at 7:00 pm.

JAMAICA, NY— The York College men’s volleyball team wrapped up the regular season Sunday afternoon, dropping matches to Stevenson University and New Jersey City University in a tri-match at NJCU.  The Cardinals fell to Stevenson 3-0 (30-17, 30-13, 30-17) and lost to NJCU 3-0 (30-13, 30-11, 30-24).

3.11.10 | Men's Volleyball

JAMAICA, NY— Mount Olive College won the 6th Annual York College Men’s Volleyball Classic, after going a perfect 4-0 on the weekend.  Although King College also went 4-0, Mount Olive won by virtue of a tie-breaker on set differential vs. common opponents.  Mt. Olive defeated New Haven 3-0, while King dropped a set to New Haven, winning 3-1.  That small margin proved to be the difference.  Christiaan Rombaut of Mount Olive College was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

JAMAICA, NY— The York College men’s volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (30-19, 30-8, 30-20) win over St. Joseph’s College (BK) on Wednesday evening.  The Cardinals ran off 26 straight points between the second and third sets in the rout.
