York Tops Medgar Evers and Brooklyn at Multi-Match

Brian Francisco and Arturo Cabrera Jr. each recorded a combined 28 kills to lead the York College men’s volleyball team to a pair of victories at the CUNY Athletic Conference multi-match on Saturday morning.  The Cardinals defeated Medgar Evers College 3-0 (30-24, 30-17, 30-16) in the opening match and then defeated Brooklyn College 3-0 (30-16, 30-22, 30-19).

Francisco picked up 17 kills, six digs and seven blocks and Cabrera added 15 kills, six digs and five blocks as York swept the season series from the Cougars.  Aruni Piantini added a match-high 32 assists, while also recording eight digs.  Alex Niles led all players with eight digs, while slamming six kills.

 

Brooklyn Recap

Cabrera led all players with 13 kills and 15 digs and Francisco and Kenan Kajtezovic each added 11 kills.  Jeff Walcott finished with seven kills and Alex Niles added six kills and six digs. 

 

York now stands at 9-11 overall and is 5-5 in the CUNYAC.  They will visit CCNY on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

JAMAICA, NY— The York College men’s volleyball team wrapped up the regular season Sunday afternoon, dropping matches to Stevenson University and New Jersey City University in a tri-match at NJCU.  The Cardinals fell to Stevenson 3-0 (30-17, 30-13, 30-17) and lost to NJCU 3-0 (30-13, 30-11, 30-24).

JAMAICA, NY— Mount Olive College won the 6th Annual York College Men’s Volleyball Classic, after going a perfect 4-0 on the weekend.  Although King College also went 4-0, Mount Olive won by virtue of a tie-breaker on set differential vs. common opponents.  Mt. Olive defeated New Haven 3-0, while King dropped a set to New Haven, winning 3-1.  That small margin proved to be the difference.  Christiaan Rombaut of Mount Olive College was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

JAMAICA, NY— The York College men’s volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (30-19, 30-8, 30-20) win over St. Joseph’s College (BK) on Wednesday evening.  The Cardinals ran off 26 straight points between the second and third sets in the rout.
