4 x 400 Relay Team Leads York at New Balance Invitational

NEW YORK, NY—The York College women’s track and field team competed at the highly competitive New Balance Invitational Saturday and 4 x 400 relay team made an impressive showing.  The Lady Cardinals squad of Alexandra Nkrumah, Chianne Ashman, Alexis Schloss and Kadisha Wickham placed fifth overall in a time of 3:58.47.  The team came in behind four division I schools and beat out all other division II and III schools.

 

In addition, Ashman had the best individual finish for York, coming in 13th place out of over 60 competitors in the 60-meter dash.  She finished in a time of 7.81 and beat out runners from schools such as UCLA, Georgetown, and Duke.  

 

York will run this weekend at the City Tech/ York invitational this Friday at Pratt Institute.

BEREA, OHYork College sophomore track standout Kadisha Wickham failed to qualify for the finals in the 200-meter dash at the 2010 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships.  Wickham ran a time of 25.01 in the preliminaries which were held at Baldwin-Wallace College on Thursday.

JAMAICA, NY— York College sophomore Kadisha Wickham has been named the 2010 CUNY Athletic Conference Track and Field Athlete of the Year and York Head Coach Thomas Pope has won both the men’s and women’s CUNYAC Coach of the Year Honors.  Also earning accolades was senior Alexandra Nkrumah, who won the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award, while also earning All-Star status.  Eight other York College athletes earned All-Star honors as well.

5.17.10 | Women's Indoor Track & Field

SPRINGFIELD, MAYork College sophomore Kadisha Wickham ran a time of 24.67 to win the 200-meter dash at the 2010 Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships on Friday.  Her time of 24.67 was an NCAA provisional qualifying time and was just one tenth of a second away from an automatic qualifying time.  She currently has the sixth best time in the 200-meter dash in NCAA Division III, and in all likelihood, will qualify for the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

5.13.10 | Women's Indoor Track & Field, Women's Volleyball

NEW YORK, NY— The York College athletics program placed third in 2009-10 Commissioner Cup standings, earning its highest finish ever.  The Cardinals recorded 80 points thanks in part to winning five CUNYAC championships this past school year. Baruch College won the title, scoring 143 points, while Hunter College was second with 80 points.  The winner was announced at the Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athlete dinner at Baruch College Wednesday evening.

 

Senior track and field and cross country star, Alexandra Nkrumah, and senior setter, Charlina Gallegos, from the women’s volleyball team were among the York College athletes who were honored at the dinner for excelling on the field of play and in the classroom.

5.10.10 | Women's Indoor Track & Field

NEW YORK, NY— A number of York College track athletes competed at the New York City Qualifying Challenge at Icahn Stadium Saturday, in hopes of running qualifying times for the upcoming ECAC and NCAA Championships. Sophomore sprinter Kadisha Wickham ran an NCAA provisional time of 24.68 in the 200-meter dash.  Wickham just missed out on an automatic bid by .09 seconds.  However, she currently stands sixth in the country and therefore has a good chance of making it to the NCAA Championships with her provisional time.

NEW YORK, NY – The York College men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams swept the 2010 CUNYAC Championships held at Icahn Stadium Sunday afternoon.  The women’s team dominated the competition en route to their fourth consecutive title and fifth overall, while the men took home their seventh outdoor title and the first since 2006.
