Box Score Game Two

QUEENS, NYSt. Joseph’s College (LI) pounded out 16 hits in game one and 19 hits in game two en route to a sweep of the York College softball team Wednesday afternoon.   The Golden Eagles defeated York 15-7 in game one and 22-4 in game two.

Game One Recap

The game was close in the early going, with each team plating two runs in the third inning.  However, three errors in the top of the fourth opened up the floodgates and the Golden Eagles struck for five runs in the fourth inning.  In the top of the fifth, St. Joseph’s would collect seven hits, including a two-run homer and stuck for eight more runs to make the score 15-2.  York managed to put five runs across in the fifth inning but it was not enough and the game ended after five innings.

Despite the loss, Shanay Patalano had a solid day at the plate, going 3-4 with a double and a triple to lead York.  Joviette Fredeick, Thessaly Belizario, Jennifer Duverge and Meriem Alahiane each recorded two hits apiece.

Game Two Recap

The Lady Cardinals were done in by one bad inning, as St. Joseph’s banged out ten hits and benefitted from four York errors to plate 15 runs in the top of the second.   The Golden Eagles slammed three homers in the inning and put the game out of reach early.

York managed to do some damage at the plate as well.  Renita Raghubirslammed a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to cap off a four run inning for the Lady Cardinals.

With the two losses, York now falls to 2-18 on the season.  They will visit Lehman College on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.
