York's Ronald St. John Honored with Community Service Award
Ronald St. John

York Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Ronald St. John was honored by the Laurelton Lions Club with its Community Service Award.

St. John was honored with the Community Service Award on May 23 at the Laurelton Lions Club 30th Charter Anniversary Celebration on May 23.  He also received a citation from the New York City Council recognizing his over 30 years of service to the York College community.

“I was taken back when I was approached by the Lions Club to receive the award,” said St. John.  “It’s amazing to receive an award like this when you least expect it. It just goes to show you that people are taking notice when you do things for the community.”

With over 45,000 clubs and more than 1.3 million members, the Lions Clubs is the world’s largest service club organization.  Founded in 1917, the Lions Club takes part in community projects around the world.

JAMAICA, NY— The York College men's basketball team won a wild contest with conference-rival Lehman College on Friday evening by a score 74-70.

With the score tied at 70-70 with Lehman holding for a final shot, the Lightning's Phil Ductan had his shot blocked by York's Shamir Wilkinson.  Wilkinson was fouled after coming down with the rebound with just 0.5 seconds left in the game.  Lehman did not agree with the call and a pair of arguments by a Lehman player and its head coach resulted in a pair of technical fouls that gave Cardinals four free throws in addition to the original two.  York hit four of the six shots to seal the game.
