Four Men’s Soccer Players Earn CUNYAC All-Star Honors
JAMAICA, NY—The York College men's soccer team has garnered four CUNY Athletic Conference All-Star honors for the 2011 season.
Jaime Hay and
Andre Adelson were named to the first team, while
Menard Millus and
Rachidi Amadou were second team selections.
Hay, a junior defender, is a first-team all-star selection for the third consecutive year. Despite dealing with a knee injury for most of the season, Hay was able to anchor the Cardinals defense and help lead them to a second-place finish in the CUNYAC standings.
Andre Adelson, a freshman forward, was one of York's top scorers this season. Adelson used his quick feet and fast moves to finish tied for the team-lead in goals (6), while finishing second on the team in points (15). He finished sixth in the conference in goals scored this season and won Rookie of the Week honors twice. His biggest goal of the year came in overtime of the CUNYAC Quarterfinals, which gave the Cardinals a 4-3 victory over Medgar Evers, advancing them to the semifinals. York would fall to Baruch in that game.
Amadou, who was snubbed from the team his first year, makes it on the all-stars in his second season. The sophomore forward was tied for the team lead in goals with Adelson and led the team in points (17). He also scored a pair of goals, while assisting on Adelson's game-winner in the 4-3 playoff victory over Medgar Evers. He finished fourth in the conference in scoring.
Millus, a sophomore forward, has been selected to the team for the second straight season. A solid all-around player, Millus was third on the team in points behind Amadou and Adelson, scoring four goals, while assisting on three others.
The CUNYAC Player of the Year was awarded to Lehman's Oumar Niang, while Rookie of the Year was given to Medgar Evers' Zeakiel Daley. Joseph Andre of Lehman College won coach of the year honors, while Simon Schweiger of CCNY earned the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award. Lehman College had six people on the All-Star team, which led all schools. York, with its four players selected, had the second-most.
