Indoor Track & Field Has Another Nice Showing at Armory Sprint Night
NEW YORK, N.Y.— The York College Indoor Track and Field teams had another nice showing at the Armory Open Sprint Night on December 28. Several York athletes improved on their times and distances from their opening meet back on December 8.
Since it was an open meet, the Cardinals were competing against unattached athletes and track clubs, in addition to some college teams.
In the 200-meter dash, sophomore
Shaquille Hodge qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, running a time of 22.72, while placing 13th. In the 60-meter dash, Hodge finished 14th with a time of 7.20 and narrowly missed qualifying for ECAC Championships in that event as well. The qualifying time for ECACs is 7.10.
Freshman
Roshane Wright placed 19th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.51. He also narrowly missed qualifying for ECACs, which has a qualifying time of 51.00. Wright also was 10th in the long jump with a distance of 6.09 meters.
In other field events, sophomore
Nosa Edionwe was the winner of the men's shot put with a toss of 10.76 meters. That was a nice improvement from his previous meet where he threw 9.88 meters.
Diana Cuevas made it a clean sweep in the shot put for York, as she won the women's event with a distance of 9.59 meters. She also improved dramatically from her last meet when she threw the shot put 7.41 meters.
York will return to action on January 18 at the Wesleyan Invitational in Middletown, CT.
