BRONX, N.Y. – The York College men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up the 2014 campaign on Sunday at the City University of New York Athletic Conference Championships at Van Cortlandt Park. Led by
Alana Johnson, the women placed sixth, while the men finished eighth.
Johnson ran a time of 28:20 in the women's 6k race, which earned her a 10th place finish. Her 10th-place run was the highest for any York runner at CUNYAC Championships since 2009, when Taneisha Renaud placed fifth. Also performing well for York was
Christiana Wallace, who finished 23rd in 29:29 and
Verenice Gomez, who placed 26th in 29:35.
Hunter College was the winner on the women's side, as they earned their 12th CUNYAC Championship. Maria Gronau of Baruch College was the individual winner in a time of 25:03.
The men's top finisher for York was Roy-don Wallace who was 36th in the 8k race with a time of 33:04. Jesus Medina placed 38th in 33:10.
The College of Staten Island won on the men's side for the second straight year, while John Pollina of Lehman College won the race in a time of 27:40.
York will now set its sights on indoor track and field season, which begins on December 6.
