JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College Athletic Department has announced that Carl Christian has been named Interim Associate Director of Athletics.
 
"I am extremely excited to welcome Carl Christian and his family to York College," said York College Director of Athletics & Recreation, Deneé Barracato. "He clearly has an outstanding administrative and coaching background, and I'm confident he will help lead our department towards success."
 
"I believe Carl will have an immediate impact not only administratively, but on the "ground" with our coaches due to his extensive coaching background. I admire his energy and enthusiasm for this new venture and truly believe we are fortunate to have him assisting in leading our team."
 
Christian joins York after working at nearby Queens College, and brings with him over 15 years experience in the athletics, coaching & recreation field. Prior to his time at Queens, he gained extensive experience in the non-educational sector as a business owner and real estate property manager.   
 
During his time at Queens, Christian directed both the men's and women's soccer programs, serving as Head Coach of the women's team from 2008-2016 and leading the men's program from 2011-2017.
 
As coach of the women's team, Christian posted a 76-59-17 record, while leading the Knights to four East Coast Conference (ECC) tournament berths, including a finals appearance in 2010.  In addition, the team excelled academically, earning consecutive National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Awards from 2011-2014 & 2016 with a cumulative GPA over 3.0.
 
Under Christian's guidance, the men's team qualified for the ECC playoffs in 2011 and 2015, with a number of individual members receiving All-Conference and All-Region recognition, and two student-athletes garnering All-American honors. Likewise, the men's program also received the NSCAA Team Academic Award from 2013-2015.
 
Christian is an experienced recruiter with a network of contacts, both domestically and internationally, and a successful fundraiser having hosted a series of annual indoor soccer tournaments, as well as camps and clinics, to help raise funds each year for the department.  
 
At Queens, Christian more recently served as the Assistant Director of Recreation, Intramurals, Aquatics & the Fitness Center, which generates upwards of $250,000 annually. His responsibilities included the supervision, staffing and maintenance of the fitness center, and the planning and coordination of their fitness classes and intramural programs.  He also helped to cultivate community-based relationships with various local organizations, such as NYC Parks Department, and expanded outreach programs for the institution through athletics.
 
Christian earned his Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Queens College and was a four-year member of the men's soccer team, earning All-Conference & All-Region recognition, and scoring over 50 goals in his collegiate career.  He also played in the U.S. Open Cup Final, which was the highest professional soccer tournament at the time in the United States.
 
Christian is a current member of the NSCAA, through which he has received the National, Advanced National, and Premier Coaching Diplomas. He has coached for the ENYYSA Olympic Development Program (ODP) since 2013, and has served as a US Open Cup Match Commissioner for US Soccer.
